Rejoice! Today, the Quebec Ministry of Transport reported that the Eardley-Masham Road should be officially re-opened by tomorrow afternoon, Friday May 20.

Martine Therriault, communications officer for the MTQ, confirmed that repairs on the sinkhole-prone area of the road, approximately 11 km from the intersection with the Hwy. 148, would be complete this week.

R. H. Nugent Trucking and Equipment Rentals of Luskville undertook the work on behalf of the MTQ. According to Jimmy Nugent, the single culvert that failed and caused the sinkholes in the surface of the road has now been replaced by a series of three larger culverts.

"It's a problem area because of the amount of water going under the road there," said Mr. Nugent. "We had to divert the water past the place we were working which took time. We also needed to wait for an environmental assessment to be done before work could begin."

Drivers can expect to once more be able to access the route to Masham through Gatineau Park by Friday afternoon.
