Thanks to funding from the MRC des Collines, three free art classes are on offer for residents of the Municipality of Pontiac.

Each class runs from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Community Centre in Luskville. There is no need to bring anything, no prior experience is required and best of all, the classes are completely and utterly free. Experienced and enthusiastic local Get Art teachers (part of the Pontiac School of the Arts) have been chosen to teach the classes.

The first class is this Monday, September 19. Creative dynamo Tanya McCormick of Luskville is best known for her innovative copper jewelry designs, but at this event, she is introducing the curious realm of alcohol-based inks. Students will make decorated tiles, hotplates or coasters or a piece of art to hang on the wall.

On October 17, Bristol-based artist Michael Peterson will teach basket-making using locally-sourced materials. Students will learn about the history of the craft and different creative techniques in order to make their own basket to take home.

On November 14, author and artist Katharine Fletcher of Quyon will give a class on Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), a fascinating miniature art form. Students will experiment many paper-based techniques while making these little treasures which measure a mere 2 ½ by 3 ½ inches.
