Remembrance Day 2017 at the Quyon cenotaph

Despite torrential rain, the people of Pontiac again stood in respectful silence at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Quyon Cenotaph on November 5th.

Although the damp knocked out the PA system, Cal Cummings MCed the event and read "In Flanders Fields". Special recognition was made for Father Michael Costello, who died this year after decades of selflessly serving the community here. Prayers were said by Catholic Deacon Bob Farmer and United Church student minister Eric Hebert-Daly. Wendy Desabrais opened the ceremony, singing "O Canada".

A detachment of soldiers from RCR2 in Petawawa formed the honour guard for the event.

One of the flag bearers, standing motionless as water poured down his face and doubtlessly inside his uniform, providing a moving example of endurance.

200th Anniversary of Chief Tecumseh

October 5 was the anniversary of the Battle of the Thames in southern Ontario.  During the battle the great Shawnee Chief Tecumseh was killed, trying to repel an American invasion into Canada.  He was a truly great warrior, leader and spokesperson for First Nations people during the early part of the nineteenth century. He died defending our country.

Ce fut un honneur de servir les citoyens de Pontiac comme conseiller. Ensemble, nous avons accompli plusieurs réalisations au cours de mes 11 ans d’échevinage, mais beaucoup reste à faire. C’est le temps pour un changement. ‘‘Je souhaite que, par mes efforts, j’ai gagné votre confiance et je sollicite votre soutien pour un mandat pour devenir votre nouveau maire.’’ ajoute le conseiller Larose.

Au cours de ses services au conseil, Larose a été un fier défenseur responsable à l’égard des dépenses publiques, du développement économique et de la protection environnementale, il s’est toujours fait un devoir d’être un porte-parole impartial pour tous les citoyens, même de ceux résidant hors de son propre quartier...

Accident majeur sur la route 148 à Pontiac

Le conducteur d’une Saturn, un homme de 32 ans de Gatineau, a perdu le contrôle de son véhicule. Il aurait percuté une Honda Accord qui circulait à sens inverse, conduite par une dame de 70 ans de Nepean. La Honda s’est retrouvée à l’envers dans le fossé. Les pompiers ont utilisé des pinces de désincarcération pour extirper la dame. On parle de blessures sérieuses, mais on ne craint pas pour sa vie.

Les dispositions de la Charte de la langue française n'empêchent aucunement l'affichage en anglais - ou dans toute autre langue - pour les messages politiques, ce qui inclut les affiches électorales. L'organisme Impératif français dénonce tout de même l'utilisation de l'expression « for Gatineau » sur certaines affiches du maire sortant.

To provide an opportunity to citizens of the Municipality of Pontiac to know more about the candidates who have put their names forward for positions of mayor and councillors, all-candidates meetings are currently being planned for Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 20, 2013.  The meetings will be organized by members of Action Pontiac, along with other partners.
