Once more the Quyon Lions' Club Santa Claus Parade, held Saturday December 9, was a great success. Warmly-dressed families lined the streets to enjoy the decorated floats, horses and of course, St. Nick himself. As the Beach Barn is conspicuously absent this year, the parade's normal route was reversed, with participants gathering at the Ste. Marie's Catholic church parking lot and walking down the hill to the intersection with Clarendon. From there, the parade continued to the Onslow Elementary School gym where hot food and drinks were served as kids lined up to speak to Santa about a few important matters.

Our wonderful Municipality of Pontiac fire fighters giving out candy and high-fives.

Vehicles of all shapes and sizes were decorated as part of the parade, including this sweet ride by Dennis and Marie-Jeanne St. Laurent

A beautiful sight: a trailer packed with happy members of the Young, Bernier and Hamilton families and their friends.

Dear old Santa. It's so nice that he seems to know everyone's names, don't you think? Ho ho ho!

According to Lions Club member Rolly Bernier, there were more children at the Santa meet and greet than ever before, including a large amount of babies. The Lions wish to thank the Quyon Lionettes for preparing and serving the food, Onslow Elementary School for the use of the building and special gratitude to the fire department for bringing so many vehicles and so many fire fighters.

So.

I was driving from Shawville to Quyon recently and noticed that the fire danger sign at the intersection of Clarendon St. and Hwy. 148 is gone. Not just taken down for repairs. It's gone, gone, gone for good.

The Highway 148 Effect

We have a smooth, fast highway for a country road. Now, at the end of June, when most roads are still pockmarked after the long winter and the rainy spring, we are a ribbon of road that invites stupidity. Some people blame the road, but it is not the road that is dangerous, it's the drivers. They are in an excessive hurry, they pass on double lines and on blind corners, they are on their phones, they've had a few drinks, they are high, they are possibly not even licensed drivers.

That's about the size of it! Executive Director Catherine Beaudet stretches her arms wide in happiness and gratitude as she describes the past year of events and achievements at the Quyon Maison de la Famille's annual general meeting on June 20.

The Maison de la Famille de Quyon (MdlFQ) continues to be a remarkable and vital mainstay in this community. In her AGM notes, Beaudet compared the Centre to a lighthouse which stands and shines over the community of Pontiac.
