A sad little tiny golden gift

Categories:

Alas, alas.

Our windows are festooned with hanging decorations on the inside (and smeared with eight months of filth outside) but neither of these visual cues stopped this little lovely from ending her life against the glass. I am so sad. She's a Yellow Warbler (Dendroica petechia) as far as I can tell. Larger birds have bumped into our windows, shaken their heads for a bit and flown away but I guess this golden tiny was too tiny. All I can do is share her perfection.

A NEW LOW FOR THE OQLF "SEGREGATION NOW, SEGREGATION FOREVER?"

Categories:

The Métropolitain
By Beryl Wajsman on May 25, 2015

Someone, somewhere in the bowels of the OQLF bureaucracy wants to impose a home-grown version of Alabama Gov. George Wallace's rallying cry in the 1960s of, "Segregation now, segregation forever!"

No it is not a stretch to make this parallel. It is actually perhaps time to stop being politically correct about what is "normal" in Quebec. Segregation of people by color is not "normal." Segregation of ideas and words in the press by language is also not "normal.

Walmart Store Holding Thanksgiving Food Drive For Its Own Workers

Categories:

One Ohio Walmart is asking employees to donate food for other workers who are struggling so much they can't afford to buy a Thanksgiving meal for their families.

The Canton, Ohio, store is holding a food drive for employees, according to a pair of photos circulated by OUR Walmart, an advocacy organization with ties to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Signs attached to bins located in employee backrooms ask workers to “donate food items here so associates in need can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.”

An Act of Compassion

Categories:

Jennifer Kingsbury Larose

Thursday Sept 18, 2014 — I witnessed an act of compassion that has, and will stay, within my heart for a long time.  Every Thursday, I have a clsc driver; they take you to doctor appointment, groceries, etc.

This very Thursday of the 18th I will not forget, as we were leaving a store, two very elderly ladies, walking so slowly in-front of us,  One of them, dragging, a rack full of items, I did not notice at that moment — but my worker did — that one of the elderly ladies was in her bare feet,  But that particular day had been one of the coldest, everyone was wearing heavy sweaters or coats.  My worker said to the elderly lady, "Madame please wait, wait right here."
