Watch your mail boxes! A brand new map of the Municipality of Pontiac (MoP) will be on its way you within the next few weeks. Showing the entire area of the municipality as well as details of the more complicated street systems in villages and along the beaches, the map was created to replace a much older black and white version that had become obsolete.

So.

I was driving from Shawville to Quyon recently and noticed that the fire danger sign at the intersection of Clarendon St. and Hwy. 148 is gone. Not just taken down for repairs. It's gone, gone, gone for good.

The Highway 148 Effect

We have a smooth, fast highway for a country road. Now, at the end of June, when most roads are still pockmarked after the long winter and the rainy spring, we are a ribbon of road that invites stupidity. Some people blame the road, but it is not the road that is dangerous, it's the drivers. They are in an excessive hurry, they pass on double lines and on blind corners, they are on their phones, they've had a few drinks, they are high, they are possibly not even licensed drivers.

It was announced at June’s council meeting that the electoral boundaries had been changed for the Municipality of Pontiac (MoP). Pontiac 2020 asked MoP communications officer Dominic Labrie some more questions about the changes.

P2020: Why was it necessary to change the boundaries?

In 2013, the Municipality of Pontiac’s council voted to install stop signs in the north and south directions of Terry Fox road at chemin Lavigne near the location of a steep hill in order to slow motorists as they travel a stretch of road which has no sidewalks.  Shortly afterwards, the signs were vandalized and removed by persons unknown, leading drivers to believe that they were no longer required to stop at the intersection.

Transport Canada to inspect sunken trailer in Ottawa River

Categories:

CBC News | Ottawa

Transport Canada says it will inspect a sunken trailer in the Ottawa River to determine whether it qualifies under law as an "obstacle," but the question of who will remove it remains open.

The abandoned camper trailer was used as an ice fishing hut last winter, but became mostly submerged when the ice melted.

The top of the trailer can be seen from the end of Chemin Terry Fox, which separates Gatineau from the Municipality of Pontiac. It sits about 100 metres from shore, roughly on the border between the two jurisdictions.

We frequently hear about lives saved by organs from deceased donors, but far less about a quiet but remarkable group: live donors.

Breckenridge’s Alain David is in his first week of recovery after having his left kidney removed and given to a total stranger whom he will never meet. This decision to undergo the operation was not a spontaneous one.

Breckenridge — Yesterday afternoon I was unfortunate enough to be a witness to another accident on Highway 148 in the Municipality of Pontiac.  At around five after five in the afternoon, a frontal collision occurred at the corner of Eardley Road and Terry Fox involving two single occupant vehicles.  The impact was so violent; one of the cars was thrown back and spun around.
