Since 1996, the Journées de la Culture (Culture Days) have presented admission-free creative activities which are open to all. Two local artists opened their studios to the public on September 29, 30 and October 1 in order to promote greater access to arts and culture.

Print-making, collage, basketry anyone? The Municipality of Pontiac has funded nine free art lessons in Luskville, Quyon and Breckenridge to sate your artistic appetite this fall. Five teachers from local group Get Art will be teaching a variety of creative skills in three hour lessons over three Saturday afternoons in October. The classes are free and all materials and tools are provided.

Watch your mail boxes! A brand new map of the Municipality of Pontiac (MoP) will be on its way you within the next few weeks. Showing the entire area of the municipality as well as details of the more complicated street systems in villages and along the beaches, the map was created to replace a much older black and white version that had become obsolete.

So.

I was driving from Shawville to Quyon recently and noticed that the fire danger sign at the intersection of Clarendon St. and Hwy. 148 is gone. Not just taken down for repairs. It's gone, gone, gone for good.

The Highway 148 Effect

We have a smooth, fast highway for a country road. Now, at the end of June, when most roads are still pockmarked after the long winter and the rainy spring, we are a ribbon of road that invites stupidity. Some people blame the road, but it is not the road that is dangerous, it's the drivers. They are in an excessive hurry, they pass on double lines and on blind corners, they are on their phones, they've had a few drinks, they are high, they are possibly not even licensed drivers.
